Most churches have some form of mid-week group meeting, aimed broadly at equipping believers to follow Jesus in one way or another. Some approach these meeting in quite a structured and formal way (e.g. Bible studies that follow the current sermon series or formal courses that run each term), while some groups are more relational and fluid in their approach. At Citygate Church, we feel that God wants us to combinate of these two approaches.

Welcome to the Salt Series! These resources are intended to stimulate much growth and discussion and action in your lives, families and life groups. They are intentionally kept really simple. Our aim is not to bombard you with information, but to give enough content to stir conversation, renewed devotions, journaling and (most of all) action.
Each week’s material will have a video link to a short video that Wally Gerstmeier recorded, together with a few questions and suggested action steps. Feel free to use these (or add to them) as you see best!
The material could also be used for personal study, but we know that God grows us best through community. So we highly recommend that these resources be used in the context of a life group or similar structure.
There is no timeline to this course, so feel free to sit on a particular topic for more than one week if God is stirring you to do so!
So often, we go through life with ideas about who God is that is unhelpful. This may be due to ignorance, but is often because of something that has happened to us in the past.
The Discover Identity Course, based on Shirley Gertsmeier’s material, ministers into this area of hurt by helping us to see God for the loving, good and generous Father that he is, and by helping us to form our identity based on God’s secure love and affirmation of us as his children.
Contact the church office to find out when the next group starts.
Story Sessions are just that – weekly episodes of people sharing a part of their life story with the rest of the group. It is an incredibly simple and powerful way to build relationships and trust in a Life Group.
Depending on the story shared, these times often become moments of confession, repentance and deep healing ministry.
There are no resources needed for this course, just an intimate setting, group of friends and a measure of vulnerability to share your story!
Go for it!
The Alpha talks are designed to engage people from all walks of life and inspire conversation. They explore the big issues of life and faith and unpack the basics of Christian belief, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”
For many people, the Bible is like mount Everest – a mountain that is so intimidating that they don’t ever see yourself climbing to the top. For other people, the Bible is so vast that they don’t know where to start or how to relate the different sections to one another. Other people know certain sections of the Bible quite well, but have avoided or ignored other sections of the Bible that they may find hard to read or understand.
Our goal in this series is to help you discover and understand the basic storyline of the Bible and how different parts of Bible interact with one another. Our other goal is to help you learn and practice how to study the Bible for your own spiritual growth and how to interpret the Bible correctly.
If that is you, don’t fear! You are in the right place!
Many of us love God deeply, but our spirituality (i.e, our practices of connecting with God and growing in him) does not help us to deal with our inherited wounds and brokenness from the past. And so, we live in partial freedom, limited joy and superficial relationships (with ourselves, family or at work) that lack vulnerability and intimacy. We live with patterns of sin and character deficiency, rather than seeing freedom and growth.
This course aims not to give us a lot of information, but rather to stir us to explore a spirituality which allows Jesus to tenderly dig beneath the surface of our hearts, uncover the wounds and allow healing and freedom to happen.
You will be required to purchase and Peter Scazzero’s book, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, which will form the basis of this course.
