A letter from Shaun |Saying Yes!

We have some exciting news to share with you all today.

One of our core values at Citygate church is living for others, living for people.  We believe that God loves people and that we exist for people for Linds and I this is a very big part of what we believe God has called us to.  To people, to building communities, and to sharing the gospel.
We have always felt called to plant churches.

For the last few years, we have been asking God what’s next for our family.
God spoke so clearly to us about serving full time at Citygate and we have poured our hearts and lives into this community.

About a year ago we started to feel stirring and the feeling that God has something new for us started to brew.  We prayed and waited and God started to speak to us again in January 2020 about starting a community.  We didn’t know where or what this meant but waited for more from Him and God has been faithful to speak through many different people and directly to us.

An opportunity presented itself and after much praying and council with those that we are accountable to, we have decided it is time for us to go on an adventure with God.  Lindsays mom has a business in Bothas Hill called Talloula – she owns a restaurant and wedding venue and she needs help expanding it and running with it, and we have decided to partner with her in this adventure for this season.  We believe that Talloula is the perfect space to start a community and to share the gospel with many people who visit the space daily.  It is a citadel in a sense, a space where the unsaved come in daily an opportunity to mix business and the gospel to reach the unsaved.  Mark had this amazing dream of the citadel and this different way of building community has created an opportunity for us that we most probably would not have seen before. We are excited about the adventure that God has for us there.

This means that we will be moving from Citygate to plant a community in Bothas Hill.  We don’t have all the answers about what our future looks like, we do know that it involves people and a God adventure…  What this new church or community looks like is unclear at this stage and we want to give God time to unfold this plan for us.  We trust and love this leadership team, and would love to invite you to pray and if you feel anything from God for us please do let us know.  If you have any questions please give us a shout.   The harvest is ripe especially at the moment in this global pandemic, As Lindsay mentioned in that WhatsApp she sent out recently the treasures for 2021 are people.  As the great commission says go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.   This is a unique opportunity to be in a space where the unsaved come to us daily, where we can see miracles and signs and wanders.  Talloula means leaping water and that’s what our hope is for the space, refreshing water to the community of Bothas Hill not just in the form of food and drink but that they will find the refreshing water of Jesus as they come.

We are so grateful for our 24 years serving in this community and in a way its so scary to be stepping out onto the water and leaving behind our place of safety, but when God calls we have to go, for the last 24 years I have been the first person to stand up in the pulpit and preach going to the nations, going to the lost and I have been the first person to encourage all of us to go.  It’s time for us the Reid family to respond God has called us and we need to step out onto the water.  We are so grateful that God has been kind to us and we are not going to the other side of the world but we will be up the hill and able to partner together in the city.

We are excited, we are terrified but we are completely settled – because we know that God is about people and when we make our lives about people He will be there. This is such an exciting time for us as a community as our tent pegs stretch wide across the city.  We have Ivan and Stacy building in Durban North and Clive and Gen off to the East and now we can take the hill country by storm too.
